Right. Yes, all huge companies are gathering as much data as possible on EVERYONE as much as they can. And with enough data, they can use analysis to not only figure things out about people that wouldn't be expected, but they can also steer people by showing them certain things.
The problem is that the Chinese govt has no compunction about violating civil rights personal privacy or what most folks would consider morals or ethics. The Chinese govt is willing to do whatever they want to anyone they want to promote their goals.
Anything that comes out of China, is potentially heavily controlled by or in bed with the Chinese govt.
