Not really sure, but I think many of the crackers start from !@#$%^&*()_+1234567890_+abcdef...Then they add on another placement, and then another, etc.
Others probably use know phases or known information such as pet/children/spouse names and birth dates with common combos.
So "#it$me47" is probably much less secure than "iliketoeatGreenapplesandbannan@s"
I think a study found an extraordinary amount of "guest" and "password123" being used in high levels of government.
