Wow, 15 years for a dishwasher. that's good going. 8 or 10 years is the longest I've ever got out of a dishwasher.
In regard to the racks; you could consider powdercoating them.
Or better still buy another old dishwasher of the same model for next to nothing, keep the good racks and dump the machine.
