We had a really pretty Japanese maple in our back yard under the shade of a neighbor's tree. The ice storm two years ago tore off a huge limb of the large tree and it fell tight on our Japanese maple. It just broke off the entire top, and all that was left was the stem of the tree. We decided to see if it would come back, and last year it started a rather lopsided new top. It is not as nicely shaped as it was, but it is coming back. You can see the green grass is all Fescue shade grass and the brown is the Bermuda that had not yet greened up in the summer. Now the Bermuda is taking over, as the neighbors just had their badly damaged tree removed.
We had to cut up the large branch from their tree and haul it to the curb along with the remains of two of our trees for the city to pick up.
