There are online fax services. Someone sends fax to the number, the image gets emailed to you, and you can reverse the process too.

I'd consider having a dedicated fax machine, rather than let your choice of printer/scanner/copier be limited by the need for fax feature.

If you do significant volume, a genuine office copier will be signif cheaper per page. I think mine (Kyocera Taskalfa 3252ci) is like 1c/page for B&W.
