Is the profession perfect? Far from it.
But at least in my experience- of 40+ years- I have never personally seen a case as reported above. (And I was on the medical complaint/review committee for years at our hospital.)
But I will say, it seems things are getting a little worse.

I agree with you. With most professions, there's the very good set that does not get any press and the negative press when the big screw ups happen(if they ever come to light).
I think it's a little bit more critical when human lives are on the line. In the CCP if you do not like the treatment by your doctor they are often beaten by the patients. Here one is labelled as drug seeking and pushed off as malingering.
It's happened to the guy who wrote the essay and it's happened to myself (albeit while not a life and death situation).
