It happened to my neighbor's son.
Botched colectomy, a few days of ignoring his mother and "just give him more antibiotics" turned into her going over his head to Mayo's rapid response team, moved to the ICU, an induced coma, almost 5 months in the hospital, and he's never going to be the same again. You're never going to see this in the news.
On a lighter note, my doc can't do math. My racing physical requires a resting pulse rate, then checked after vigorous exercise, then again after 2 minutes of rest.
Either I'm the fittest guy on the planet, and have a pulse rate of 72 after the exercise, and 64 2 minutes after that, or she can't multiply.
Took it myself when I got home, got my heart rate into the 120s doing the same then, then settled into the 80s or 90s 2 minutes later.
