Finally got some decent weather for a few days, I've been longing for another mountain based therapy session to augment the recent ocean based sessions, so off to Diablo I went again.
Spring runoff has wreaked havoc on the boat launch area, at least a couple feet of sand and rock covering the ramp. All but useless for power boat launching.
No problem though, kayaks can be launched from a multitude of places... I don't need no stinkin ramp.
This lake is always a striking color, it's feed by a multitude of glaciers and filled with silt/rock dust that reflects a crazy color at certain sun angles.
A rocky start for a wooden boat
Prime dock and campsite all to myself, love early season/mid week outings!
Walking to the top of Thunder Knob, nice open rock slabs with good northerly and southerly views
Sourdough mountain
Subway sandwich and a good cold beer, dinner with a view and slow light show, perfect!
I'm in no hurry
Amazingly warm for late April, I was down to a tee shirt until after sunset.
Got cold quick, mid 40's overnight. Opted to stay in the sleeping bag until 8 am when the sun hit the tent
Turned in early, set my alarm for 1AM, Aurora lights were predicted overnight so back up to the high point I went with my big camera and tripod- alas, no lights visible via eyeball or camera. Super quiet and peaceful out wandering around for an hour
Very rare to be in the middle of this lake early afternoon with no wind- usually has some impressive whitecaps racing through
