After flattening out the coiled ridges with pliers, you should be able to gain the extra width, unfortunately I can’t measure this heater tube accurately but using the glass bottle (which just so happens to be 62mm) method, it does go over and down further by almost a 1/2” when I pushed it over the bottle.
(I can’t get to my engine to make any measurement and fitment.)
Here’s what I just did, looks flat and that part will be covered by the clamp.
