You are so right, I drove a 73 911S from Charleston to Jacksonville, also picked up a complete Carerra wing and lid. Needless to say, it wouldn't fit in the 911, so I swapped it onto the 73 911S and put the 73 lid in the car. Well, that was a white knuckle drive, made worse by a rusted out front suspension pan
. At one point I had to hit the brakes and the front suspension "shifted" creating a major OH S**t moment.
Fun times.
