I went with the cables on top just because I wanted a clear floor. Works great for storing or working on cars. I've never had an issue with the top limiting what I want to do. On the arms however, I have a couple of cars which are too low for them. I need to drive up on ramps to get the arms under them. If your supplier offers low profile arms that's something to consider.
