Other than the obvious...
I have an old wood porch swing that sits in the rain and is never used. Its for looks only and it doesn't have to look new. Old and shabby adds to the antique look. It hasn't been touched and the wood is so dry that the spousal unit tried spraying it with a rattle can (bless her darling heart) and you can't tell it was touched.

I have some leftover white indoor water based paint and thought before I throw out the swing, why not put a coat of the indoor paint on it to see what happens? What's the worst thing that can happen? I am not a painter and really don't want to put more money into the swing.
