It's not.
I have two HoloLens Dev kits. Ported one of our apps to it. As an entertainment device they are fine but for productivity not so much.
Apples product is an AR centric device, Hololens not really.
Apple have built a host of solutions over the last few years specifically targeting consumer creation and publishing of AR content. Taken individually they appeared to be just oddball novelty products but when you step back and look at them as a collective it's very clear what Apple did. The device is useless without content so they developed all the content creation tools first. And what they did is significant because they created FREE consumer friendly content creation tools.
I hear everyone freaking out over Apples price point but it's the same as Hololens 2 base package. Hololens 3 is going to retail for ~$700 more than the Apple device.
