When my FIL installed the now rotten piece of oak in the hay wagon 40 years ago, he referred to it as "the Longworth". It ties the front and rear axles together, which is kind of nice when you're trying to get a load of hay out of the field. This spring I saw a crack right through it and realized I had another project. A metal shop bent four pieces of 3/16 steel into "L" profiles six feet long and I tried to remember how to weld. Eventually I created the 1 1/2 × 5 1/2" 12 foot abomination you see in the foreground. Next step is to remove the wooden scrap and install the shiny new creation. Not today.
