Yeah, if you check the Internet, you'll find that there are plenty of folks that have shot themselves using IWB on the hip (3 o'clock) or small of the back. There are photos on the net of people with a hole in their arse or an entry on their hip or at the top of their thigh with an exit much farther down their leg, often near their knee.

It's a gun and dangerous no matter what. The most dangerous time seems to be when holstering, and you don't need to be in a hurry then, so take some extra time to be safe when putting the gun up. Also, make sure that the holster that you have is a quality holster that's made in a way to help minimize the possibility of ND when holstering.
