I think Tyler might be onto something about the fuel filler neck and associated parts. I say this because awhile ago, the fuel filler protective flap fell off...and while the part itself is fine, the underlying support structure (rubber) surrounding the filler neck, while not dry, is either cracked or torn slightly.

So my my plan will be to pull off a bit of rear carpeting to expose the fuel filler components and check them over carefully...and replace what might be needed. And while I'm in there, I'll also take a look at the fuel level sender cover. (side note - that the fuel level sender must be fine, as it continues to give the most accurate reading of any car I've owned!)

Would hope that the above might address my issue...as I'd really rather leave the evaporative system alone, at least for awhile.
