Progizhin has his own Telegram channel. In recent months and weeks, he’s been attacking the Russian military and government, everyone but Putin, in increasingly insurrectionist terms. The Russian military ordered Wagner and other PMCs (private military corps) to come under the direct control of the generals, Progizhin refused. He most recently attacked the pretense for the invasion, saying that Ukraine was not a threat to Russia.

It seems very plausible that the military decided to send Progizhin a message and/or kill him. It seems pretty plausible that Putin has decided Progizhin and Wagner are no longer useful and/or a threat.

If Wagner’s troops (25K) and the Russian military are going to be attacking each other, that’s good for Ukraine.

For however long it lasts. I don’t imagine Wagner can last long in that fight. They may have the better soldiers and some armor, but the military has the aircraft, artillery, etc.

Progizhin should probably try to escape, but no-one will take him - I expect he’ll be dead soon enough.
