The doc and nurses usually don't tell you if the string is 'self-absorbing' or not...
I've had to dig into skin and pull them out by the ball knot a few months later myself.
They probably are absorbing these days.
But just in case..
Have Mercurochrome or other modern topical antibiotic wash on standby. Cotton balls or other sterile wipes. Use it well. Zinc and VitC.
Hydrogen Peroxide is not a bacterial disinfectant. It does lift crap from the surface.
3% is the norm and will clean the surface area at least.
