White Tiger is a 2012 Russian war film about a badly wounded Soviet tank commander on the Eastern Front of World War II who becomes obsessed with tracking down and destroying a mysterious, invincible Nazi tank, which the Soviet troops call the "White Tiger."
The film was selected as the Russian entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards. Lots of gritty action, with mud, fog, creaking tracks and you can almost smell the incessant diesel exhaust. Awesome battle scenes, well-paced direction, and focused performances, alll from the Soviet perspective. The only German is a captured officer who provides some clues about the fearsome tank.
It's in Russian & German with English subtitles. Even if you're not a 'tank person,' it is a great story and highly entertaining. 8/10
