Well, 5 years really is the shelf life l had continentals on my Suburban 2500, I was heading out to the beach and developed a nasty vibration. Turned out one of my tires was coming apart.
I went to my preferred tire shop and because the tires didn't have a lot of wear, they were just going to order one. I asked them to check the dates and my tires were 5 years old, so I said replace them and use the best for the spare. A few weeks ago, the spare developed a big bubble in the side wall so I replaced that one too.
