The old dog and I had an encounter with a very aggressive deer at the beginning of my holidays.
Just outside Kimberley BC, a doe was stamping and bluff charging the old (13) border collie and was looking to kick the crap out of the dog.
We backed up almost 30 yards with me yelling and waving my coat over my head.
It wouldn't let up until I found a big hefty stick and when it did a charge, I leaned in to clobber it.
She wasn't expecting that and backed off. I was able to back out without any further aggression from it.
Didn't have bear spray as it was a short little hike at the edge of the camping area I was staying at. Hindsight....
