I found the locknut. For a long time I've wanted to try sand casting so this is a good excuse to experiment and the only way to learn is to try it.
I got a Folgers can full of brass scrap; 22 cartridge casings, old VW valve guides, and bits of plumbing. A bag of play sand from Home Depot and a jug of kitty litter.
