The version of "The Weight" that's in the movie was not from the actual "concert" ... it was deemed "lacking something" so The Band did a reshoot (three takes) later in front of a small crowd in a different venue and asked their friends The Staples Singers to join them....
I do believe they "nailed it"...
I would always try to catch the Staples when at Jazz Fest in 'Nawlins .... it wasn't the same gospel music that I knew as a kid ... that's for sure
