I once waited 9 months for a pan gasket for a pre-war RR Phantom. When it arrived it was a piece of waxed twine in a small manila envelope. Needless to say, we machined a groove in the pan sealing surface and added an o-ring.
It was never going to see much driving but damn those old RRs leak oil.
