Probably hoping to get you to initiate a race. I always loved when someone comes up next to me and does the engine revving, speed up and drop back move to try and get me to race... and there is another car right in front of one or both of us, huh what do you think, that I’m going to floor it into the traffic in front of me?. I just ignore them anyways- both me and my car are too old to race.

My sister would have this happen when she used to daily drive their 1987 Regal Turbo. Sometimes she couldn't help it if the road was clear ahead.
