I think lots of kids have had the "get your sheiße together" talk followed by a kick in the arse that didn't, both in the past and today. I don't think that's terribly effective in many cases. Some cases, sure, but not all.

Exactly. I think a lot of folks attribute to nurture that which could/should mostly be attributed to nature.

At some point young adults will choose to go with what drives them at that moment. Also their brains have not matured and coupled with raging hormones (with both sexes) is and always has been, a volatile mix.

Now: add social media where everyone acts out behind a keypad, instead of in person, in real life like it used be where consequences would be immediate before escalating ever higher. I believe young girls (pre-teen / early teens) are especially at risk

Yes, there are kids that dabble on the dangerous road, but then get their sheiße together before things become irreversible. There are some that never do.
