I think lots of kids have had the "get your sheiße together" talk followed by a kick in the arse that didn't, both in the past and today. I don't think that's terribly effective in many cases. Some cases, sure, but not all.

Exactly. I think a lot of folks attribute to nurture that which could/should mostly be attributed to nature.

Yes, there are kids that dabble on the dangerous road, but then get their sheiße together before things become irreversible. There are some that never do.
