Actually I consider myself fortunate, the prof was really good, it was a small class, and the subject matter was interesting to me since Buddhism (in its original form) is more a way of living one's life than a theology. IIRC Buddhism doesn't "forbid" one from holding another, possibly theistic, faith while still being a "good" Buddhist. So I gues it has something in common with the Church of Merrie Olde England.

My uni has a "liberal arts" requirement for engineering students, presumably so we become better-rounded individuals. I fulfilled it mostly with linguistics courses but the Buddhism class caught my eye so I gave it a shot. I enjoyed it.
