Our Meijer had a 'buy one and get the second for 40% off' for a couple weeks. Twice, I tried to do that...and both times the check-out didn't register it right.
It pays to watch the receipt.

I stopped at a grocery store that I usually don't shop at, only to get a can of coffee for my office coffee pot. The store was close too my office. I found the coffee isle, saw the price of a can of coffee, and walked just feet to the check out, cash in hand. The chick asked if I had their store savings card. I said nope, and she rang it up. It was several bucks more than the price, and I pointed at the price on display on the shelf. She said that is the member only price. I said "then sell it to a member", and I walked out with no coffee and my cash in hand. I went to a Walgreens literally across the street, and bought it for less than the grocery store had it for sale to the "special people" with the savings card.
Of course, I marked that store as off my list, and they were closed within a year.
