Whirling noise (almost like a power steering pump low on fluid) coming form the 4.8 Vortec in my '02 Silverado.
Fluid level fine in power steering pump. No driving issues nor anything off at the gauges.
Can't determine where it's coming from. Decided to replace the belt tension idler.
Just did that and the noise didn't go away. Seems to fade once everything warms up.
I replaced the water pump and belt earlier this year.
I wiggled all the pulleys just now before putting tension back on the belt and all felt tight enough.
Old tension idler I replaced felt OK too.
As an aside.....these little finger ratchets are the cat's pajamas!
