Any excessive blowby would be a result of poor ring sealing I would think, hence the need for a compression test. The AOS's only function is to equalize the pressure built up within the crankcase - as there is a slight amount of blowby even with a healthy engine which will pressurize the crankcase over time.

So if you are getting a lot of oil in your intake, that would further bolster your rings being the issue, although some oil is normal since this is the function of the AOS...

You can monitor how much oil you are burning, anything less than 1qt per 1k miles I wouldn't worry much about. A compression test will give you more insights into the condition of the rings (or valve seats), and you can go from there.

As Monkey Wrench correctly states below. A good compression test could still mean you have valve seal or guides that need to be repaired (oil leaking past these into the combustion chamber).
