just for the sake of interest, this is the part in a volvo that catches any chunks and maybe some oil that is trying to come up to the intake along with the crankcase fumes.
Its a cheap part that white screen is a plastic thing full of little holes like tubes.. In the Volvo they can plug up , in the porsche it looks like it wasn't present to begin with. Its in the tube above the oil separator.
I guess a volvo one could be added, whether it would really help , not sure. maybe it would help get some of the oil tracking through along with blow by to drip back in the pan ?
the small hose goes to the manifold for constant vacuum , the larger one runs into the air duct , just after the air mass meter. roughly equivalent to the barn door in the 944
not sure why they call it a flame trap, its more like a dirt trap, and they can plug up. If they plug up the crankcase pressure becomes trapped and cant' leave as it should.
the idea is that either system is designed to re-burn your crankcase fumes to reduce pollution.
