I get so tired of people trying to get over on me illegitimately. Daily phone calls, hourly spam in my email, false advertising - it is indeed a PITA.
Several years ago I got a notice of an unpaid parking ticket in Boston from a car rental company. There were fines and penalties that added up to over $500.
I had rented a car in Vermont, but was never in Boston. I looked closely at the copy of the ticket and saw that they had the year off. The ticket had the right month and date but was written a year before I rented the car. The rental company just said, "Sorry" and that was that.
