Engine Lid Won’t Close

AAAAAHHHHHH! The engine lid had become fussy when trying to close it, but it is now just being a butthead! I press it down, and the spring around the post pushes it right back up. The catch(?) in the hole is visible and moves when the latch handle is pulled. I’m not sure what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, it is a ducktail…fiberglass on an original 911 metal frame. If I drive with the lid unlatched, is there a risk of it flying open and damaging it?

Thank you in advance…
