I am starting this thread just to see if anyone else has experienced the insanity of being denied due to what businesses consider to be inadequate identification. Here in CA, we have real ID and being mandated to go to this form of ID, resulted in effectively is a name change for me after 52 years. That’s another story for another time.

In college, I got my commercial driver’s license due to a job driving the student shuttle bus. Hadn’t used it since but I’ve always maintain the commercial rating, just because. All I had to do is get a DOT physical every two years. This will play into the thread in a little bit.

In July, my licensed was set to expire on my birthdate. I go into DMV, renew my license, eye exam, online paperwork, blah, blah, blah… with the exception of my being able to get the DOT physical since the local examiner is booked out for weeks and my appointment was finally last week. Easy peezy, 60 day extension for the medical, DMV paperwork in hand so all good………. Not!

Since then, I was flagged by DOJ and denied a purchase of a firearm(reason:expired DL/real ID). Per the manager who I know at our local DMV, I’m valid except for driving a commercial vehicle for hire since they were waiting for a new commercial medical, then today at my credit union, with my old DL and DMV paperwork, I was denied access to my accounts and locked out to cash a small check. Reason: expired DL and it’s not a valid form of identification, even though the old one has all of the required info, my picture, physical identifiers, address, absolutely everything with the exception of the little date at the bottom, for that, I provided the DMV paperwork showing it’s been renewed and I’m just waiting for the new plastic card in the mail. Nope, not good enough… was told there is no way to determine that was mine since DMV does not provide a “ photo receipt” anymore, they would not even accept my CA state issued government ID card nor the federal passport iD card because my physical address was not listed on either. So here I wait for the new little plastic card to arrive……[emoji849]

Am I missing something and has anyone else experienced the sheer stupidity of this level?
