Many laptops had the possibility of 2 different batteries with one being standard and the other being an optional upgrade.
eg - buy our laptop for $999 w/48Wh battery
or if you want longer battery life, $1199 with 64Wh battery!
Also, in the past it was a thing to update cell phones with larger capacity batteries to give you more battery life.
I don't think there's any issue with a different capacity battery being used as long as it fits and the voltages and connections are the same. I suppose it's possible that some devices may have some sort of intelligence that caused a problem, but I think that would be the exception rather than the rule.
