Ive heard the same. While spec is like 10k miles my buddy says his were tight at 5k. Tight valves nearly ruined our trip when we did the CO-UT-AZ BDR 2 years ago. The infamous single cylinder start combined with tight valves meant 2-5 hour delays each morning getting one to start.
I'm probably gonna do mine at 4k and see where they are at.
