Magura hydraulics. I never saw any in the wild, however I remember they were expensive, and well regarded when they were set up properly. Mostly an early mountainbike thang

As to the frame? I don't own a single bike without some tire rub damage on the chainstays but surely that's because of the mighty power I produce when I'm standing on the pedals....
. I doubt if it would put me off from buying a vintage steel frame, knowing that I've never had a frame break down there, and any vintage roadbike I would ever assemble at this stage of my life would be a neighborhood cruiser, not a hard-mileage missile.
