Not really that shocking back then. We've watched lots of movies from the early talkie years (1927-1940) and many/most of the women's dresses were light, thin, and drapey, and slips/shifts/chemises seemed to be thin and barely there. And the "blue laws" came up in the late 20s or early 30s, and took a few years before they had universal strong compliance.
