987 Electric Trunk Release

Hey friends,

I have a 2005 987 boxster, I love it dearly but the electric trunk popper isn’t working except on the rare occasion when I get lucky.

What happens: whether it’s the button on the key fob or the interior switch, it sends power to the rear trunk release, and you can hear a very weak attempt at the trunk trying to open, but seems like not enough power is flowing for it to pop fully. I installed a new trunk latch release mechanism on one of my lucky days, but it didn’t change the results. I put in a new switch panel on the interior in case it was shorting out, also put in a new fuse hoping that would help since it seems like an electrical problem? None of these solutions have worked, front trunk works like a charm.

Has anyone experienced this or have any advice on how to diagnose it? I would like to do an oil change and digging around in the bumper for the manual release cable is a total pain.
