It depends upon the relationship. Is it someone that I HAVE to deal with (someone at work or in some position where I can't avoid them)? Is it someone that's an acquaintance where I can break ties? Is it someone that I'm guaranteed to run into from time to time that really wants to interact with me?
Someone that I have to deal with. Stay civil, act like everything is good, assume everything out of their mouth is a lie and act accordingly. I've had coworkers that were crap. You're stuck with them. You also may not want to piss them off since they may have friends/relationships that they could use to cause trouble for you.
If it's not someone that I have to deal with, I'll just break ties with them. No need to keep them around.
If it's someone that I'm guaranteed to have to deal with from time to time, I'll probably treat them like the first group, but if they just piss me off too much, then I'm likely to be a dick to try to get them to stop wanting to interact with me much. It's pretty rare, but I've done it a few times over the years, it usually works, but not always. Once or twice it's backfired and somehow endeared me to the person that I'm being a jerk to which makes them want to interact more. That's a nightmare. But usually that improves the situation somehow. I guess they now view me as some sort of friend and their behavior changes.
