Having grown up in Santa Monica, home of Phil Hill the first American F1 Champion, I wanted to be a race car driver in the worst way ever since being little. Following F1 way back in the early '60's was a pain as only Wide World of Sports would cover it and that was only the big races.
While the cars of today are super fast, they just don't hold the interest for me now days. I guess I was attracted to the 'risk' factor of the old cars. When they changed the track configuration at Monaco it was kind of like 'why?'. I got a kick out of seeing the 'in car' shots that the Sky coverage showed during the broadcast last weekend. Kids today just don't know how lucky they are to be able to see that perspective.
Captain, you've led an interesting life, thanks for sharing it with us here.
