Baz, I believe that removable plate in the rear is for being able to remove the rear wheel of your motorcycle. on most motorcycles, once you pull the axle, you need to drop the wheel down some to get past the rear fender. You should have a cover plate to place there when you are running the bike up on the lift. Leave the plate in place if you’re not going to drop your rear wheel.
