Back 100 years to 1923. Many of you are familiar with Lombard Street, known as one of the most crooked streets in San Francisco. Originally a straight cobblestone street with a 27-percent grade, it was modified in 1922 to include multiple switchbacks so automobiles could utilize it more safely at a 16-percent grade.
