Clutch IMS $$ Question
I thought I'd get more responses here than on the Boxster forum.
We're selling our 2000 986 Boxster.
The car was built in March 2000, oil changes every 2 years regardless of miles (typically 3-5K for that period).
Always cut open and inspect the oil filter, never any signs of metal shavings, metal dust, debris, etc.
Our plan was to inspect/replace the IMS when it was time for a clutch. Clutch engagement is still normal.
The potential buyer got a quote from a shop just outside of Boston and is trying to use it to negotiate the price. I think the $10500 asking, with room for negotiation, is already fair in the current market. (2000 986 Boxster, 2.7, 5spd, 73xxx miles, cobalt blue, hardtop, 2 owner, clean, no winters, no salt, no bodywork, no stories)
Clutch Kit /Flywheel Parts:$1813
Clutch Labor: $1824
IMS Bearing: $949
IMA Labor: $912
Total $5503 + tax
The labor costs seem pretty high, especially the $912 in additional labor for the IMS on top of the $1824 in clutch kit labor. That's 13.68 hours if a shop rate of $200/hr is assumed.
What are your thoughts?
