My question is, our gas use to be only 1.00-1.35 difference compared to other states. Now, it over 2 bucks. What tax and how much and were is this money going?

OK, Steve lives where they get that white stuff during the winter so they probably still sell 93 octane. Not here.
Jeff, we pay state and fed excise tax, sales tax, and another 40 or so cents in 'fees' like
low carbon gas program fee and 2 more. It all adds up to roughly $1.20/gal over the cost of the gas alone. That's 6 added fees or taxes per gal.
CA is No. 1 for the highest added fees.
