Was back in 1967 my dad mentioned he was wanting to get a new car. I instantly suggested we go visit the Porsche dealership. A 1967 911 S would have been the perfect family car with two teenage boys stuffed in the back seats!
He did actually take me along as he test drove the 911. The car salesman rode in the front, so I was crammed into the tiny back seat. Despite my pressure he decided an Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a real back seat and factory air conditioning a comfortable ride was a better choice. Maybe he was right.
I had to wait until I was 40 to start my earnest quest to actually buy a 911. It took me until I was 41 to find a great car and to take possession of my 85 911. I looked at a lot of badly abused and crappy 911s that were cheaper, but I did not want a project car. There was no real internet back then so finding the right car was much harder.
