I've been doing the same for about 12 months. The trick is the dwell time. Let the foam do its job but no too long. When the car is really dirty I still use a sponge. Note the extra long pressure hose for my Karcher. Mine is 7 meters (7.65 Yards) long. That alone make life really easy.
About 5 minutes later and just before the final rinse.
