Swithcing Cable to Fiber For Internet
Following up on the thread about switching to fiber internet (which I can't find, meaning the original thread).
I was on Comcast Business cable internet at $170/mo for 100MB/s. A year ago, they raised me to $350/mo. When I called to complain, they merely offered me their business fiber service at the same price. I had Cat 6 pulled and switched to Quantum at $50/mo for 500MB/s.
When I terminated Comcast, I gave them the option of me keeping their cable internet for under $100/mo, I'd use Comcast as a backup and wouldn't have to deal with adding voice to my Quantum (additional $40/mo) and porting the number over. Comcast was willing to do $100/mo for 50MB/s but insisted on a 2-year contract, so no dice and I've terminated them.
I was surprised Comcast was so inflexible on the contract requirement. They are really going to lose subscribers as much faster, much cheaper fiber spreads.
What really burned me was Comcast said the reason my rate went up to $350/mo a year ago was because my contract expired and I was month-to-month. So rather than tell me that and offer to renew my contract at the original price, they were happy to say nothing and double my rate.
I'll be moving my home internet over to fiber as well. Comcast is charging me $160/mo there, and fiber is available around $50/mo.
I still want a backup solution, and will be looking at fixed wireless.
