At my last job, our building had a utility pole 6 feet from our building. It had three different fiber companies with three separate providers on it. So close but yet so far. I called one of them, and it was indeed a business service we needed. The cheapest they offered was over a grand a month. Eff that, so we stayed on cable.
Now I am at home and have my home office with "gigablast" speed. It is never 1024 Mbps down, but is is in the mid to high 800s down and 40 Mbps up. Still way faster than most all web sites.
We have one customer that uses Amazon Web services, and they have unbelievable speeds. When I upload a file to them it is 35 to 40 Mbps and steady. Downloading a file is astonishing fast. Over 1 GB files in no time. It just blows me away.
As a geezer in the the computer world I remember sitting with the Engineer of the year at AT&T and we all watched as he downloaded a 1 MB file in only 12 minutes with dial up modems.
My biggest gripe with all the providers, if they have an established customer that pays the bill electronically, automatically they try to just stick you with full price. Yet a new customer requiring installation, customer service time and all that hassle get great discounts!
Good luck finding a provider that understands customer service.
