Gulf Blue was a dark Blue until John Horseman, technical director of FAV and then of JWE asked Grady Davis (Gulf oil), if he could have the cars a lighter blue so they were easier to see and a blue he liked personally more. I think this was about 1967. This is the light blue that everyone now thinks of as "Gulf Blue"
John Horseman is most known for cutting the back of the 917 long tail off and creating the 917K and a the 917 a winning car.
